Just a few days away from the one year anniversary of purchasing the WK2. To think it had 31,619 miles on it when I put my signature down (currently at 76,189 miles). So far I’ve spent just under $2,200 over the year to maintain this rig at 100 percent. That means upkeep is just under $0.05 per mile .

I did spend $1,079 in November on the Michelins and will see 90,000 miles on them, so next September the charge won’t show up but I’m expecting to have a couple of larger maintenance or repair items that will even it out. Either way, it’s still cheaper than my Kia Rio which was costing me just under $0.06 a mile (and rising) during that last 100,000 mile portion of its life.

I just really like having all my vehicles in a condition that allows me to take any of them on a 1,000 mile road trip AND be sold the same day. Love driving more though...

But why is the car’s bacon maker turned off? Wrong time of day?

So you’re saying that the (very roughly) 45 cents per mile I paid to maintain my previous car from 31,000 miles to 51,000 (over four years) was not as good a deal? Plus roughly 30 cents per mile in depreciation from purchase to sale, and average gas mileage under 20 miles to the gallon of premium fuel.... it was not a cheap ownership experience. That said, one major repair and one major milestone service account for 2/3 of the maintenance costs...aside from that, it was a walk in the park.

Of course, the fact that it had depreciated about $1 per mile between driving off the lot new and my purchase makes all that look positively reasonable.

It makes me feel like a big man when I can provide my own bacon management!

Nah, it’s cheaper per mile when you put more miles on a car quickly. If all this happened within the usual annual mileage it would be like $0.15 per mile in just maintenance. Gas is free for me and depreciation is, Im sure, horrific!

Highway miles are nothing but win for natural engines. Though 10 minutes in the city is enough to keep me from ever breaking 20.4 mpg by the end of a tank.

I got inspired by your bacon maker comment. Ran out to the car, took the pic, ran it through “Paint” and boom! Gentlemen, we have a “Baconmaker” meme... use it wisely.
